At 2350 on February 6th, 2018 Hualien suffered a 6.4 earthquake. This is the strongest earthquake I have experienced and led to hundreds of injuries, a currently unknown number of deaths and multiple building collapses. This is why I advocate that everyone have first aid skills and supplies. Fortunately, my building did not collapse and I did not have any major injuries. However, I do some thoughts on things I did wrong. You can see the damage done to my room below.
The difference between gambling and investing is having a good plan. Even then it has its risks that make good financial planning necessary. Being an expat adds an additional layer of complexity to our financial planning. So how should an expat look to invest? In the end, expat investing is not that different then if you were back home in the states minus many tax-advantaged retirement accounts. These tips are drawn from my own experiences so take them with a grain of salt, you don’t know me from Jack (see disclosure at the bottom). Just remember the PG version of the golden rule: Don’t Be Stupid
We interrupt our normally scheduled programming for a rant. it’s a simple but timely but timeless rant. With the recent shooting in Las Vegas, I once again realize that first aid must be the most under-appreciated skill. First aid is one of the most universally useful skills. It does not matter your age, job, location, creed, or race, first aid is useful to you. It’s useful to me being an expatriate that lives alone as it to my married friends with kids back in the USA.
Every so often I see a picture like one of these two. Both show the percentage of people in each state that have a valid passport. They are usually followed by comments that make a moral judgment about having or not having a passport and about how can Americans not travel. Proving once again that people are bad at Geography.
I use to know a red headed Irish man. When he got drunk he use to do a Ron Weasley impression
“Harry Potters fuckin my Sister” he would yell. “He using his wand on her chamber of secrets”
Ok, that story has nothing to do with the article but it is funny. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone just had its 20th anniversary, as it seems you could not escape hearing again and again. Even worse is the inability to escape politics in the USA and the UK being compared to Harry Potter.
As we probably all know by now, the removal of a 69-year-old passenger from a United flight turned violent a few days ago. If not get out from under your rock and google that stuff. I have talked to one person that felt the man deserved all of it and more because he had a bad attitude, but for all of us normal people, it’s shocking!!!!!
